Need-To-Be-Seen Pop Culture Illustrations

Fans of the graphic novel Gyakushu! are no stranger to Dan Hipp’s signature illustration style and his ability to bring life to rock and roll zombies through his texturally complex use of lines.  We have gathered some of the cartoonist’s most interesting works outside of his graphic novels where he brings back old school characters from dope books and movies.
Hipp has been converting nerd power into coolness from a very young age. A typically nerdy and chubby kid growing up, he has been honing his talent from his days of youth.  As he grew up he found inspiration from Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) and Jamie Hewlitt (Gorillaz/ Tank Girl) which helped him eventually build up his own style.

Hipp remembers doing strange things as a kid, like squeezing bees with his fingers and eventually getting stung, so he spent days watching “Masters of the Universe” with baking soda all over his hand to ease the pain. Hipp’s imagination is limitless. He has a penchant for recreating monsters in refreshing ways that make them intriguing to look at and are not scary.
